Our Staff

Dr. Bainbridge

Dr. Scott Bainbridge joins Queen West Animal Hospital after having been employed at the Blue Cross Animal Hospital. He has an undergraduate degree in Animal Behaviour from the University of Toronto and is also a graduate of the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine program at the Ontario Veterinary College in Guelph. Scott made the Dean's Honour Role each year at the O.V.C. and was the recipient of both the Merck Veterinary Award and the American Animal Hospital Senior Student Award.

Scott's professional interests include internal medicine, ophthalmology and neurology. He enjoys spending time at his cottage, golfing and traveling. He currently resides in the West End of the city with his wife Andra, his son Calum.

Dr. Mathison

Dr. Scott Mathison joins Queen West Animal Hospital after being employed at Derrydale Animal Hospital in Brampton. Scott received his Bachelors of Science at McGill University and a Masters of Forest Science in wildlife ecology at Yale University. He completed his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine at the Ontario Veterinary College as the class co-valedictorian.

His professional interests include surgery, dentistry, radiology, practice management and e-business. When not at Queen West Animal Hospital, Scott enjoys skiing, soccer, hiking, cooking and home renovation. He currently lives in the neighbourhood with his wife Kelly son Jasper and daughter Ella.

Dr. Fisher

Dr. Paula Fisher received her Bachelors of Science degree in biology from the University of Guelph, and her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from the Ontario Veterinary College.  After graduation, Paula spent 2 years working in Bristol, England; first at the Bristol Veterinary School's Feline Centre, followed by small animal practice.  Before working at Queen West Animal Hospital, Paula also worked at the Veterinary Emergency Clinic in Toronto.  Her professional interests include feline medicine, geriatrics, surgery and emergency medicine.

In her spare time Paula enjoys dining out, going to the gym, running, and travelling.  She currently lives in Toronto with her husband, Hans, and her 3 fantastic cats: Milo (Flinty), Zippy (the Rascal) and Otis (the Googler).

Dr. Fisher

Dr. Danika Neumann is a new addition to the Queen West Animal Hospital team.  She received her Bachelors of Science with a minor in Biomedical Sciences at the University of Guelph before completing her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from the Ontario Veterinary College.  Danika was a very active member of the Global Vets program during her time at OVC, participating in volunteer veterinary projects throughout Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda.  Danika’s professional interests include animal behaviour, dermatology and internal medicine.

When Danika is not at Queen West Animal Hospital, she enjoys spending time with her fiancée Sean and two cats: Zephyr The Heifer and Seamus O’; snowboarding and wine tasting.

Michelle

Michelle has been with Queen West Animal Hospital since it opened in November 2000. She has over fifteen years of customer service and management experience and looks forward to providing you and your pet with exceptional client care. Michelle has a Bachelor of Applied Arts from Ryerson Polytechnic University. She lives in Erin with her partner Steve and their troop of dogs: two miniature dachshunds, Caesar and Goose, Cinco (the honourary dachshund) and two crazy Blue Heelers, Derby and Roo. Next to animals, her favourite things include dance, music, movies, travel and hiking with the troops..

Paula

Paula’s background is in zoology, but more recently she has completed a masters in Environmental Studies from York University.  The focus of her masters’ research was animal-assisted interventions in a correctional setting bringing shelter dogs and incarcerated men together. One day she hopes to create a similar program here in Toronto. Paula lives in the Dundas West and Bloor area with her husband and her 9 year old pit bull Lola. Outside of work her interests include animal rescue, live music, reading, and being outside in the summertime.

Lysa Barbara

Lysa is a graduate of the Veterinary Technician program at Seneca College. She has worked both in regular practice and in a shelter environment. Her main interests are in animal behaviour and client education.

Lysa lives in the West End with her three cats; Mooks, Rabbit, and Mooshie, and her dog George. In her spare time she plays Roller Derby with her team The Death Track Dolls.

Jenn Sonia

Jenn DeMers joins Queen West as a Registered Veterinary Technician and a graduate of the Veterinary Technician program at Seneca College. Jenn lives in Toronto on the Waterfront with her husband, their 2 Siamese cats Lilly and Effie and their Toy Poodle Sophie. In her free time she enjoys going out to new restaurants and spending time with family and friends.

Congratulations to Jenn and Dan on the arrival of their son Jaden, in December 2006!

Whitney Sonia

Whitney joins the Queen West team after living in working in Sydney Australia for 4 years. While overseas she worked for a Specialist center, focusing primarily on critical care and emergency medicine.

Whitney lives in Toronto with her husband Dave and their cats Milo and Missy and their dog Cheryl (see pet of the month Summer 2006.) Her interests include traveling, lacrosse, theater, waterskiing and of course nursing animals back to health!

Special congratulations to Whitney and Dave on the arrival of their daughter Delilah in November 2007.

Simone

Simone joins Queen West Animal Hospital after working in the gourmet gift business. She is a student at the University of Toronto attempting to determine which field she would like to pursue with animals. She is also currently a volunteer at the Toronto Humane Society and her dream is to one day have her own sanctuary for animals in need. Her personal interests include reading, restaurants and anything 'dog'. Simone lives in the area with her boyfriend and their two dogs 'Angel' and 'Le Rage'.

Congratulations to Simone and Mike on the arrival of their daughter Olivia in January 2007!

Catherine

Catherine joins queen West Animal Hospital with an Honours degree in Animal Biology from the University of Guelph. In addition to her experience in the Veterinary Medicine field, she has volunteered with Annex Cat Rescue and Wildcare Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre. Her personal interests include going to the gym, knitting, reading and spending time at home with her 15 year old cat, Mimi.

Pierre

Pierre Desjardins has been passionate about animals since a very young age. Throughout the years he has been involved with the care of a large variety of animals. As manager of an exotic pet shop he learned about the care and husbandry of a wide variety of exotic birds, reptiles and fish. Pierre was also involved with wildlife as the Coordinator of Wildlife rehabilitation for the Toronto Humane Society and has helped rehabilitate many different species of birds, mammals and reptiles.

Pierre is very active in the music industry; he has produced several records and plays bass and keyboards in a band.

Melanie

Melanie came to us after four years working in a Toronto Dog Daycare. She is a certified canine specialist and has attended seminars in canine behavior and temperament. She one day hopes to continue her education and become a Veterinary Technician.

In her spare time, Melanie enjoys relaxing with a book, and taking her Step-children, Payton and Kyla, to the zoo and for picnics in the park, as well as spending time with family and friends. 

Melanie lives in the area with her fiancé, Jeff. They are currently on the look out for that special dog to join their family.

Steve

Steve has recently emigrated from the UK and joins Queen West Animal Hospital after working at various wildlife conservation projects around the world.  He is hoping to start the Veterinary Technician course at Seneca College in 2009 and is excited about a future in veterinary medicine.

His interests outside of work include cooking, reading, local wildlife and snowboarding.  He is especially looking forward to camping in Algonquin Park and hopefully seeing the illusive Moose!

Terri

Terri is a graduate of the Nova Scotia Agricultural College with a diploma in Veterinary Technology and a BSc in Animal Science. She moved to Toronto four years ago from Nova Scotia and has experience with both small and large animals. She is currently living with her boyfriend Chris and their three adorable cats Max, Sam and Storm.

Kelly

Kelly is very excited about being a part of the Queen West team! She recently acquired her license and is now a Registered Veterinary Technician.

Professionally, her interests include feline medicine, geriatrics, nutrition and dental health. In her spare time, she enjoys working with two local animal advocacy groups: the Annex Cat Rescue and Wild @ Heart Canada. Kelly one day hopes to have her own “retirement home” for abandoned senior cats (if she can stop adopting them in the meantime!). She shares her home with four interesting cats named: Squishie, Smush, Squeak, and a foster cat named Sammy.

Sarah

Sarah joins Queen West Animal Hospital after working as a self-employed cat groomer for two years. She has volunteered for the Toronto Humane Society and is currently working with the Toronto Cat Rescue. In addition to grooming, Sarah is interested in animal behavior and welfare. Sarah's two cats - Maximus Quintus Sparticus (aka Max) and Sophie - graciously allow her to share space with them in the Queen West area. Her personal interests include movies, reading, shopping and taking pictures of her cats.

Samara

Samara comes to Queen West Animal Hospital after a year of traveling throughout Central America and volunteering at Wildlife Rehabilitation Centers in Guatemala and Costa Rica. Before that Samara worked for Toronto Animal Services for 3 years. Samara studied Zoology at UofT where she graduated with an Hons.B.Sc. She grew up on a farm in Terra Cotta with horses, dogs, chickens, rabbits and cats and has always loved animals. In addition to animals (especially felines), her passions include music, riding, traveling and learning new languages. She currently lives in her favorite neighbourhood in Toronto (The colourful Annex) with her two kitties, Loki and Gambit. Return to Top of Page

Melissa

Melissa has worked at the Queen West Animal Hospital for 3 years now (she can’t believe it either)!  Educated in the Social Services field, she has recently returned back to school for Fashion Arts and is looking forward to a creative career in the future.  In the meantime, she enjoys working at the clinic amongst all the great Queen West clients and creatures.

Working closely with Toronto Cat Rescue she is known as the Foster Queen; always sharing her Roncesvalles attic apartment/hostel with various felines. In her spare time she enjoys spending time with her soul-mate (her bike), photography, reading, road trips, sewing, fashion, art and music..

Alice

Alice joins the Queen West Animal Hospital after a magical adventure volunteering with orphaned baboons in South Africa. When not at Queen West she can be found exploring the city on her red bicycle, discussing the meaning of life with her four eccentric rescued cats, and painting and drawing.

Emily

Emily comes to Queen West with an education in social work, and is currently studying biology at Ryerson University. She is thrilled to be working in the animal field. She currently lives in the Annex with her devoted miniature schnauzer, Molly, and new addition, Robin the kitten. Emily’s interests include creative writing, reading, running, music, politics and exploring the city on foot.

Brooke

Brooke joins Queen West Animal Hospital after studying Music and History at Queen’s University in Kingston Ontario. She is a newly admitted Torontonian, calling the Yonge and St.Clair Area her new home. She lives there with her partner Mark, and their two newly adopted kittens, Odin and Freya.  Her spare time is spent almost entirely on everything music-related, but also enjoys art, fitness and reading.

Trevor

After working with two of his passions – food and music – Trevor considers himself lucky to finally be working with animals. He lives in Brockton Village with his girlfriend Sandra and their two cats, Lyla and Ruby. An amateur student of everything, Trevor is waiting until his mid-life crisis hits before he actually gets a degree in anything, so he can actually afford it. His main interests are food history, outsider art, and trying his level best to make sense of this incredibly big universe we live in.
